Yesterday we were promised a better tomorrow. Today we tread a boulevard of broken promises, and all the kids who were leaders of tomorrow are still being led by leaders from yesterday. So young people of today are watching their future stolen with very little power to do something about it, or so we thought.
It is not that difficult to change, we just need to get the information out there. That little power is a lot if we all agree that enough is enough. Let’s say goodbye to everyone who has led up till now and take control of our own future. Let us prove everyone who believes it cannot be done wrong and show them how it is done.
While Nigeria currently ranks on negative statistics from crime to poverty, I say we are more than enough to have our voices heard. Let us tell them when the election comes around that we are not push overs.
Let us say goodbye to yesterday and start a new chapter. Most people would like to travel abroad and change countries but with a country of over 170million people, where would we all go? We are stuck here, and the only choice is to change. Everyone who has benefited from Nigeria at the expense of the common man does not want change, they need the poor to remain poor while they live as kings. They’ll rather provide you with crumbs from their tables while they own mansions and private jets. As long as you are poor, you will continue to worship their majesties. Remember, when you celebrate a rich politician, religious leader or con man (419, yahoo boys), you bury your future and that of your children.
So, be on the lookout. When you see a rich person from yahoo boys, politicians or religious leaders i.e. pastors ask yourself what have they created to become rich? Let us stop celebrating those who have stolen from us. A preacher who does not own an actual business where actual commodities are being created, a politician who was not rich before he was voted into office, a young boy who has no job or business; all living a flamboyant life? These are all rogues and do not deserve to be celebrated.
Let’s say goodbye to yesterday and start celebrating good people. A politician who left office in the same house as he was voted, a politician who gets treated in the hospitals he built, a politician whose children went to the schools he invested in. Let us celebrate preachers whose church gives as much as they get and do not drive expensive cars while their congregants walk to church. Let us celebrate honest people and shame the ones with a shadow over their wealth.
Now there could be a distinction where the preacher was rich as a result of their day jobs or personal investment hence could buy anything their own money could afford but still, humility is a virtue. Jesus did not prance around on stallions in display of wealth while some of our pastors wear clothes that are more expensive than Bill Gates would wear in a life time and for the work of the ministry fly private jets the cost of which could feed every single poor people in their congregation.
Politicians owning mansions their next 10 generations would not live in and we roll red carpets to welcome them where we should be shaming them? It’s time to say goodbye to yesterday.
